In a shocking incident in Purushottampur, located in Ganjam district, authorities discovered the decomposed body of a 45-year-old man on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Lokman Sheikh, a labourer hailing from Debadaspur village in Murshidabad district, West Bengal. Following the grim find, Purushottampur SDPO Sujit Nayak and IIC Rajesh Nayak arrived at the scene to probe the matter further. Preliminary investigations suggest that this was a case of premeditated murder.
Reports indicate that Sheikh was engaged in a bridge repair project over the Rushikulya river near Pandia Chhak, working alongside other labourers from West Bengal for the Hercules Structure System company. A violent altercation reportedly occurred among the workers on Sunday night, during which Sheikh was allegedly assaulted and killed by several colleagues using blunt instruments. His body was subsequently disposed of in a roadside hut.
The discovery of the body was made after a foul odor alerted locals, leading to police involvement. A case (675/25) has been registered, and the remains have been sent to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur for an autopsy. Investigators are currently interrogating other labourers and staff from the contractor company, although some individuals have been reluctant to share information regarding the incident.
